Please get rid of

• ‘Swag’, or heavy curtains
• ‘Bowl’ light fittings (a.k.a. the ‘boob’ light)
• Vertical blinds… these may be practical for offices, but not for homes… try Venetian or Roman blinds, or soft, sheer drapes
• ‘Feel-good’ message boards… these have been a bit overdone
• Bold patterned rugs (these draw the eye downwards)
• Crusty old Tupperware (just plain unhygienic) – go for glass storage bowls
• ‘Marshmallow’ couches (too big and take up too much space)
• Old ‘flattened’ cushion inners (old and worn, and look tatty)
• Clutter – anywhere… including outdated magazines (donate to charity), old-fashioned ornaments that don’t go with your ‘look’, kitchen appliances that you don’t use often (put them in a high cupboard so long – or see tips on kitchen design)
• Anything that doesn’t lift your mood… whether it’s faded bedlinen, a lampshade that’s hanging a bit skew… whatever. If you don’t feel good about it, chuck it!
